About IoT & AI Challenge

The objective of the AI Apex Challenge 2024 and the Oman IoT & AI Challenge 2025 is to create a dynamic platform for higher education institutions across Oman to showcase their most innovative IoT and AI-powered projects and startups, with the goal of preparing them to compete in the Arab IoT & AI event in the UAE in 2025

University and College Graduation Projects Presented for the Academic Year 2024-2025
Incoming senior university students preparing for graduation projects in related fields are invited to undertake projects within the broad domains of IoT and AI. This track does not prescribe a specific theme, allowing for diverse applications in areas such as healthcare, fintech, education, mobility, smart cities, the industrial revolution, and more.
The goal is to disseminate knowledge about IoT and AI while equipping students with technical and business skills to develop practical, market-ready applications. Participants will gain access to cutting-edge technology and innovation resources, along with opportunities for financial support or sponsorship to advance their projects. 

Junior students are invited to present their innovative ideas in IoT and AI through a creative and visually engaging poster. This event provides an opportunity to showcase unique concepts addressing real-world challenges in areas such as healthcare, education, smart cities, and more.
Students will gain valuable feedback from industry professionals and academics, fostering their creativity and understanding of emerging technologies while inspiring future development and success 

A pre incubation program for the startups that are already working or willing to work in IoT & AI applications. Participants from the previous Oman IoT Olympics or Groups who will participate to NETACAD Olympics will have opportunity to get qualified to the Oman IoT & AI Challenge directly. Participants go through intensive technical; business and innovation trainings and they are offered all needed resources to help them develop working prototypes and business models for their products/ services, with a chance to get incubated in case of winning.

Selection Criteria 

Round 1- Semi-Final
All submitted Project will be evaluated for shortlisting based on two factors:
     1. Relevance to the broad theme of Challenge 2024 (AI & IoT)
     2. Fulfillment of all participation criteria. (link to the participation criteria)
The submission selected for Round 2 will be informed through email.
Round 2 -final
All the projects / Startups examined in Round 1 will be eligible for Round 2.
Final Project: The submissions will undergo TWO (2) BLIND REVIEWs by domain Experts on the following parameters:
    • Proposal related to the domain
    • Significance of the identified problem
    • Rationale of the work
    • Methodology
    • Conceptual Design
    • Innovativeness and Quality of the project
    • Benefits to society
    • Overall quality of the proposal

ONLY one Round 1
• Creating a poster (A2 size) highlights your research and innovation ideas and outcomes. Your poster should focus on how AI or IoT solutions are applied to address the problem. Poster should be based on the original research and innovation.
    1. Clearly define the problem statement or research question.
    2. Show how AI or IoT solutions are applied to address the problem.
    3. Highlight originality and innovative aspects of the project.
    4. Include relevant background, methods, results, and conclusions.
• Judgment criteria:
    * Creativity, clarity of message, originality.

Poster requirement:

    Title: A clear, concise title that reflects the theme.
    Contestant Detail: Provide name and contact details.
    AI and IOT concept or idea: clearly depict an AI-related concept or IOT concept, solution or ideas.
    Visual Design: Use Drawing, graphics or digital art to represent AI and IOT theme.
    Research attribute:Highlight the research problem , objectives , research outcome , results and solution. 

  Round 1- Semi-Final
All the Proposals submitted for Startups will be assessed based on the following:
    • The ability to implement the idea
    • Nead for the product
    • the feasibility of the idea
    • SWOT, employing analysis elements to study the idea ( ) directly or by including it in the PESTEL presentation or report .
    • Availability of resources used in terms of funds, manpower and expertise to develop the product
    • Financial study and profit potential
    • Added value and competitive advantage of the product
    • Target segment analysis and market positioning
    • Aspect - the ability of the product to achieve sustainability (developmental and financial aspect)
    • Use of technology in production and management
    • Marketing plan
    • Market and competitor analysis
    • Aesthetic branding and advertising design
    • Using social media and various advertising channels (traditional and modern)
• Round 2 -final         

Conditions for Entry

  • Each Submission will be considered one “Entry” with maximum 3 participants.
  • All submissions must be in English.
  • All entries are subjected to all the official Rules of the Oman IoT/AI Challenge.
  • Sponsor intends to make personnel available to assist all Entrants in developing their submissions during the Challenge Period. Entries may NOT contain the following, and Entrants are solely responsible for ensuring that each Entry submitted does NOT contain:
    • Trade secrets or other information that is inappropriate to share with the public.
    • Any third-party software or other content that would (a) require Sponsor to obtain licenses or permissions from any third parties, (b) require Sponsor to make payments to any third parties, or (c) otherwise prevent Sponsor from exercising its rights described below.
    • Copyrighted materials (whether registered or unregistered) that are owned by third parties, without permission from the copyright owner(s).
    • Trademarks owned by parties other than Sponsor or the entrant submitting the Entry (whether registered or unregistered), without permission of the trademark owner(s)).
    • Information that defames, misrepresents, or contains disparaging remarks about Sponsor, Sponsor’s products, any person, company or product.
    • Messages or images inconsistent with the Sponsor's brand and company, including, but not limited to, obscene or inappropriate material.
    • Content that violates any country’s laws.

    • Illegible, incomplete or inaccurate Entries, Entries that do not comply with these Official Rules, and Entries that cannot be accessed by the Sponsor and judges will be disqualified. All information collected from Entries shall be deemed collected and judged by Oman IoT/AI Challenge committee

Term of Participation

By entering the Oman IoT/AI Challenge, the Team agreed to be bound by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of Oman IoT/AI Challenge organizing committee and the judges

By entering the Oman IoT/AI Challenge, the Team agreed to be bound by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of Oman IoT/AI Challenge organizing committee and the judges, which are final and binding on all matters pertaining to this Challenge. As between Team and Oman IoT/AI Challenge, the intellectual property rights to an Entry,

if any, will remain with the Oman IoT/AI Challenge organizing committee, except that these Official Rules do not supersede any other assignment or grant of rights according to any other separate agreement between Oman IoT/AI Challenge organizing committee and other parties

As a condition of entry, each Entrant agrees that Oman IoT/AI Challenge organizing committee shall have the right to use, copy, modify and make available any Entry and any submitted application or code in connection with the operation, conduct, administration, advertising and promotion of Oman IoT/AI Challenge to Arab IoT/ AI Challenge, its products,

and this Challenge, including, but not limited to the right to make use of the Entries to the public for promotional and publicity purposes. Reasonable requests to anonymize certain aspects of an Entry will be honored should an Entrant otherwise not be permitted to participate in the Challenge.

Acceptance of a prize constitutes permission for, and a winner's consent to, Sponsor and its agencies to use Entrant’s name and/or likeness and Entry for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.

An Entrant may be prohibited from participating in this Challenge if, in Sponsor’s sole discretion, it reasonably believes that the Entrant has attempted to undermine the legitimate operation of this Challenge by cheating, deception, or other unfair playing practices or annoys, abuses, threatens or harasses any other Entrants, Sponsor or Sponsor's associated agencies. Any false information provided within the context of the Challenge by any Entrant concerning identity, email address, postal address, telephone number, ownership of right or non‐ compliance with these Official Rules or the like may result in the immediate elimination of the Entrant from the Challenge.

Oman IoT/AI Challenge organizing committee further reserves the right to disqualify any Entry that it believes, in its sole and unfettered discretion, infringes upon or violates the rights of any third party or otherwise does not comply with these Official Rules. Prizes are conditioned on verification that Sponsor's provision, and Entrant's acceptance, of a prize, comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and/or rules of Entrant's nation, state or province, locality and/or employer.

Submission Guidelines

The participating teams need to submit all the below-mentioned collaterals on portal  www.omanarabaiiot.com with appropriate details mentioned in the Submission of the repository to ensure that your submission is complete.

  3. Make New Submissions to submit your document.
  4. Upload the ideation document in .doc or .pdf format with font size 12, single spacing, Times New Roman font.
  5. The document should include the following details only:
    • What is the uniqueness/novelty added by you to the defined problem statement?
    • How is the proposed solution impacting the business? How are the business processes simplified or bringing value over the existing process?

    • Define the scope of work to be implemented in the project with modules etc. 

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
Where available, URLs for the references were provided.
The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
